There are countless different types of matting agents for coatings on the market, but most of them belong to the group of silicas (precipitated, dried silica gel type, or agglomerated fumed silica), followed by the broad family of wax additives. Both have a relatively high degree of transparency in coating resins, so that they are very well suited for clear coating applications. Large particle size fillers are used for matting, mainly in pigmented formulations, where the opacity of the filler does not create a difficulty.
