Hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) has been the leading thickener for waterborne architectural coatings for more than 50 years. Hydroxyethylcellulose is widely used globally as the primary rheology modifier in waterborne latex paints. HEC provides unique features and advantages to latex based paints. These are utility in a broad range of formulations, delivery of full-bodied rich consistency, freeze thaw stability, excellent resistance to sagging, dilution tolerance, excellent compatibility with surfactants and colorants, and pH and electrolyte stability among other benefits. Today the majority of HEC issold as a powder.
