CAVALIER QUARTET: Joseph Lewis discovers a quartet of classic combines working in South Devon

I first discovered the South Hams Vintage Machinery Club through its working event on Easter Monday near Kingsbridge, Devon. I was greatly impressed by the members' variety of tractors, crawlers and machinery and the hospitality of organiser and Caterpillar crawler owner, Alan Luscombe. At the end of the day's proceedings, Alan explained that in August he would be harvesting 40 acres of winter barley to be followed by 70 acres of spring barley with four Ransomes Super Cavalier combine harvesters, dating from the 1970s.
