Water chemistry is continuing to be a fascinating subject for centuries. Life on the earth flourish and perish on water, thus its chemical makeup is widely studied and chronicled world over. Surface water is more susceptible to contamination than subsurface water; the surface water hosts many pathogens, organic compounds which cause the endemic diseases like cholera, jaundice, typhoid, gastroentitis, diarrhea, dysentery etc. The groundwater is well known for inorganic contaminants and is responsible for plethora of ailments across the world. It is essential to explore the chemical make-up of the water we use to save ourselves from the maladies of water-borne disorders. In light of rapidly changing living standards of the people and advent of new health hazards it is necessary to revise the drinking water standards periodically to get maximum benefit of the water. Gen-next (younger people) needs to be sensitised about nutrition and medicinal values of fresh and plain water. Over filtration or purification of water using membranes, resins or reverse osmosis techniques will remove or dilute its mineral content leading to vitamin deficiencies. Most of the drinking-water grade water is consumed in washing, flushing and other household chores, only 3 to 41it/person is used for drinking and cooking purposes, hence parallel lines need to be developed to supply ordinary or partially filtered water for such uses. Strict enforcement is required to totally avoid dumping of all the unwanted material, domestic sewerage as well as industrial effluents into water bodies which cause direct, rapid and irreversable damage to water resources. Water is worshiped but not protected, preserved or perused to maintain its natural chemical composition. Through this simple write-up efforts are made to enlighten the people on essentialities of water chemistry. By knowing and understanding the water chemistry subtle thoughts will propagate among all and water will not only be adored but also cosumed in its true, natural, wholesome form.
