In this investigation, the influence of corundum particulate on dry sand jet erosive wear characteristics of the as-cast and heat-treated Al-7075-corundum particulate MMC have been evaluated in order to explore the feasibility of using the MMC developed for erosive wear resistance applications. Within the scope of this investigation, as the corundum particulate content is increased there is a decrease in erosive wear weight loss. Further, the erosive wear weight loss decreases with increase in jet impact angle after reaching a peak value. Under identical conditions the dry sand jet erosive wear weight loss of heat-treated Al-7075-Corundum particulate MMC is higher than that of as-cast MMC. The SEM micrographs of worn surfaces indicate clearly wear due to erosive action.
