EXTRACTION OF COPPER FROM ACIDIC CHLORIDE SOLUTION BY ACORGA P5100

Studies have been carried out on the exaction of copper from acidic chloride solution by Acorga P5100 in kerosene and stripping of the loaded organic phase with dilute hydrochloric acid, to obtain pure copper chloride. The effect of the concentration of copper, chloride ion concentration (by adding NaC1), the pH of the aqueous solution and the temperature, as well as, the organic to aqueous ratio (by volume), on the extraction of copper to the organic phase, has been investigated. Stripping of copper from the organic phase has been carried out with dilute HCl at different temperatures. The distribution constants between the two phases at different temperatures have been obtained both for the extraction and stripping process, using organic to aqueous ratio of 1:3. By utilizing these values, the heat of reactions for both the processes have been calculated. From these results, the reaction isotherms for both extration and stripping, have been also established.
