User applications of alloy phase diagrams

Dr. Dara Antia often used to emphasize the importance of applications based on alloy phase diagrams. With his encouragement, two full-fledged papers were written devoted entirely to applications as part of the Indian APD Programme. The first one authored by me and Dr Antia was published in the Journal of Alloy Phase Diagrams in 1988 [1] and pertained to the applications of evaluated data on iron sulphur ternary systems. Table 1 gives a listing of the applications of a number of Fe-S-X diagrams. The second paper, published a year later and authored by Rodriguez and coworkers [2], discussed applications of phase diagrams in fast reactor materials. As a tribute to Dr. Antia for his outstanding leadership in promoting research in the area of alloy phase diagrams, a number of recent applications based on phase equilibrium data are illustrated in this lecture.
