摘要

This paper reports on the important fundamental properties of the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film used as a sensor in various applications. The details of techniques that are required to pole the film and measure its piezoelectricity and pyroelectricity are reported. For measurement of piezoelectric coefficient in thickness mode (d{sub}33) and (d{sub}33){sup}*, a new approach associated with reduced surface friction is developed. The accuracy of the results is confirmed with the nominal values provided by the supplier of the commercial PVDF film. These techniques provide base measurements for design of many sensors using PVDF film. In addition, fundamental theoretical analysis of the PVDF film is provided which could be used for validating the experimental results.
