ON MAIN APPROXIMATIONS IN THE LINEAR THEORY OF THERMOELASTICITY

摘要

A unified scheme of the criteria for simplifications in the linear theory of thermoelasticity is proposed. The simplifications considered here are: 1° the quasi-stationary displacement field approximation, 2° the rigid heat conductor (thermal stresses theory-, uncoupled thermoelasticity-) approximation, 3° the adiabatic approximation and 4° the isothermal displacement field approximation. The scheme is derived by using the dimensional analysis arguments, and the criteria are given in terms of two independent small parameters: coupling coefficient ε{sub}c, and the distance-scaling ratio ε{sub}t for the short- and long-distance regimes (at a given time scale), or the time-scaling ratio ε{sub}D for the long- and short-time regimes (at a given distance scale). These criteria are then applied to discuss the asymptotical behaviour of plane harmonic waves in each of the regimes.
