PAUL GAUTHIER: World Class Canadian

In the day-to-day world, Paul works as community capacity coordinator at the British Columbia Paraplegic Association (BCPA). As part of his duties, Paul is currently a member of the Personal Supports Program Working Group, an interministerial group of the present BC provincial government, which includes members of the community. The group is creating a new personal supports program in British Columbia, for which the current focus is equipment and assistive devices. He is 36 years old, born and raised in Vancouver, recently engaged to his partner, Sarah, and foster father to 14-year-old Derek. Paul was born with cerebral palsy and uses an electric wheelchair to get around. At work and home, Paul makes the most of modern technology using voice recognition software in conjunction with his cell phones and computers. He also uses the assistance of a personal attendant for daily care needs and a sport assistant for his athletic endeavours.
