摘要

From his powered wheelchair, he attends events, speaks to the media and deals with community groups and individuals every day and makes his voice heard. But he also has a joie de vivre that goes well beyond his job. Barry experienced his spinal cord injury at 22 years old through a diving accident while swimming at nearby Buck Lake, Alberta. He is now a 34-year old C5/C6 quadriplegic with very limited use of his upper body and hands. Like anyone with an SCI, he found the realization that his life had changed so dramatically very profound. "I was a pretty carefree young man, virtually gifted with immortality, who became a person with very real physical limitations who had to reinvent life. But the fact is, despite how much my life had so suddenly changed, my new life was still good and the only one I had.
