The beginning of the third millennium of the Common Era is a moment to reflect on our collective histories, as few people are lucky enough to see the mark of one thousand years passing. Current global environmental crises are heavy marks at this moment that implore us to look to the next thousand years of our societies in slow, reflective steps. The Tokachi Millennium Forest has become a place for this sentiment, where landscape design physically regenerates the land and prompts visitors to contemplate the relationship between human culture and wildness.
