Dolomite Fine Quarry Waste Replaces Raw Dolomite in the Manufacture of Ceramic Wall Tiles

Dolomite fine quarry waste, from a construction site, was used to replace dolomite raw material, extracted from another site, is an admixture suitable for the manufacture of ceramic wall tiles from Egyptian raw materials. The impact is mainly environmental protection rather than cost reduction. Chemical analysis and XRD were used to assess raw materials and vitrification parameters of the fired samples were measured. Both XRD and SEM were used to analyse the phases and the texture. Dielectric properties were investigated. The replacement showed better results for water absorption when compared with both ISO and Egyptian Standards. It also improved the compressive strength and the dielectric properties. Regarding the aim of this work, this replacement can be recommended.
