SAUDI ARABIA: Cristal Poised to Declare Jazan Ilmenite Smelter Fully On-Flow

The commissioning phase of Cristal Global's new ilmenite smelter at the new Jazan/Jizan Economic City (725 km south of Jeddah and 80 km from the Saudi/ Yemeni border) is nearly complete. Within the next few weeks, the main contractor - Outotec (headquartered at Espoo, Finland) - expects to declare the smelter as ready for commercial-scale production, processing about 800,000 t.p.a. of ilmenite to make 500,000 t.p.a. of TiO2 slag (containing at least 85% TiCh) and 235,000 t.p.a. of pig iron.
