FINDLAY, Ohio—An off-the-road (OTR) tire that caught fire at Sparks Commercial Tire Co. March 28 in Findlay caused an undetermined amount of damage. The fire started some time after employees had left at 5:30 p.m. on March 28, according to owner Terry Sparks. The precise cause has not yet been determined, but Mr. Sparks said it/ is likely the vulcanizing equipment in his shop short-circuited and set the OTR tire ablaze. Firefighters from five departments were dispatched at 6:40 p.m. and extinguished the blaze almost an hour later. No one was injured. Sparks Tire lost only two tires to the flames—one that had been cured and one "beside it that was not worth repairing," Mr. Sparks said.
