New winter tires get icy Fla. reception: Goodyear tests Ultra Grip Ice WRT under climate-controlled—that's cold-—conditions

EGLINAFB, Fla.—Florida is a state known for hot, humid weather, sandy beaches and voting troubles—not so much for its ice and snow. While opposite temperature extremes aren't a very common occurrence in most parts of the state, one location—the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base—is capable of reaching temperatures as high as 165 degrees or as low as -65 degrees. For Goodyear, this was the perfect place to test its newest winter tire, the Ultra Grip Ice WRT.
