Behaviour, behavioural disorders and behavioural therapy of parrots and parakeets.

The biology and behaviour of parrots and parakeets, in the wild and in aviaries or cages, are first described and discussed. Forms of behavioural disorders are then described: feather pulling; regurgitation of feed; screaming or aggression; stereotyped behaviour; self-mutilation; pecking at breast muscles; apathy. Differential diagnosis and causes of these types of abnormal behaviour are described, and the final section deals with therapy through housing, activity and feeding strategies.
