Ectopic pregnancy in a miniature rabbit.

This case report describes an ectopic pregnancy in a rabbit in Germany for the first time. The rabbit was presented due to anorexia on the 35th day of pregnancy. Three dead fetuses were visualized by abdominal ultrasonography. The dead fetuses were found outside the cavum uteri during exploratory surgery. The uterus seemed to be intact and had the size of an non-gravid organ. According to fetometric parameters, the age of the fetuses was estimated to be around 28 days. Due to size of the fetuses, a secondary extrauterine pregnancy could be assumed. The postsurgical phase was without complications, and 2 months after surgery the animal was in good health. A secondary extrauterine pregnancy should always be taken into consideration in case of anorexia in a pregnant rabbit..
