Splenic abcess in a dog. A case report.

Objective: Splenic abscess is a rare disease in dogs and mostly seen in association with perforating foreign bodies. A case of trauma induced splenic abscess in a dog is described and discussed. Material and methods: The case of a one-year-old female Doberman pinscher that was presented for abdominal pain after non-operative management of blunt abdominal trauma was examined. Results: Ultrasonographic examination showed a hypoechoic splenic mass and fine needle aspiration of the mass revealed neutrophilic bacterial inflammation consistent with a splenic abscess. Partial splenectomy was performed and histopathological evaluation of the mass confirmed the cytological diagnosis.
