Results of oral immunization of foxes against rabies in Saxony combinedwith the threatening of rabies from abroad [German]

The oral immunisation of foxes by airdrops in a large area of Saxony led to freedom from rabies after-five vaccination deliveries since 1993. In the following five years rabies was diagnosed four times in 22 cases near the border of the Dresden district. The vaccination of foxes resulted in a sufficient resistance to the pressure of infection. As a comparison, an outbreak of rabies is described in a fully susceptible fox population during the period 1974-1977.
