Opportunities and challenges co-exist in China's machinery market

The Chinese tobacco machinery industry is buoyed by a fair wind, but it seems the effects of the overall stagnancy of the Western cigarette market are starting to be felt in China, albeit only marginally within the overall prosperous outlook. Severalnew machinery investment plans have already been cancelled. Yet many in the industry feel that opportunities are starting to be matched by challenges. However, the growing sophistication of Chinese products in the sector is standing the industry in goodstead, with tobacco companies increasingly aware that they do not have to spend vast sums of money in order to obtain high quality.
