Discoid lupus erythematosus in a cross-breed German-shepherd [German]

A case of changes of skin in a 3 year old femal cross-breed German-shepherd is described. The changes affected the nasal planum, bridge of the nose, oral mucosa and the perioral and periocular skin. Histopathology shows lympho-plasmacellular interface dermatitis, probably as the result of discoid lupus erythematosus. Typical case history, results of physical examination, course of the disease and the reaction to therapy are characteristic of discoid lupus erythematosus. For therapy, topical and systemic steroids (prednisolone) were used. Later vitamin E was given.
