Objective off-road tire testing: characteristic tire performance on wet grass and clay

For the last three years, Cranfield University and Land Rover have been carrying out tire testing using the Off-Road Dynamics facilities at Cranfield University's Silsoe campus in the UK. These facilities allow tires to be tested under consistent, controlled, and thus known conditions. This paper will outline the characteristic performance found when testing on two commonly used surfaces - wet grass and clay - using the example of two tires of the same make, type, and tread.
