The role of thrombolysis for patients with hemodynamically stable acute pulmonary embolism

Acute Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is a relevant cardiopulmonary condition with an important impact on mortality and morbidity of the population and on the quality of life of patients who survive an acute thromboembolic event. Registries and cohort studies report an annual incidence of PE ranging between 23 and 69 cases per 100,000 the general population and approximately 8-19% of all patients with acute PE die within the first three months after diagnosis [1,2].
