METI Of Japan Contemplates To Form Liaison Conference For Raw Materials

Regular meeting was held on March 17, 2004 between the Japan Iron and Steel Federation and Minister Nakagawa and other officials of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Chairman Akio Mimura of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation stated on the following points: (1) development of foundation for competitiveness; (2) promotion of Free Trade Association (FTA) in Asia; (3) revision of appropriate prices due to a price hike of raw materials (primary products); (4) environmental issue; and (5) earnest address to prevention against industrial accidents.
