Review On Metallurgical Coal Negotiations For FY 2007 With Japan

Resulting from the recent settlement on Chinese hard coking coal price, contract negotiations for the fiscal year 2007 with Japanese blast furnace steel producers have practically been completed. At the price negotiations for the fiscal year 2007 with the blast furnace steel producers those of hard coking coal were reduced continuously from the fiscal year 2006 while those of LV PCI coal and semi-soft coking coal were raised. The consecutive price reductions of hard coking coal should be ascribed to looser supply position of hard coking coal as new metallurgical coal mines started operation one after another in Queensland, Australia, Canada and so on.
