Present Market Status and Projection of Dimethyl Carbonate

By Feng Jianmia and Si Jinming Dimethyl carbonate(DMC)is an important intermediate for organic synthesis.It has the positive features of safety,convenience,low pollution and easy transportation.Owing to its low toxicity,dimethyl carbonate is considered a "green" chemical product with bright development prospects.It passed the registration of non-toxic chemical products in Europe in 1992 and favorable conditions have therefore been created for its replacement of phosgene,dimethyl sulfate(DMS),chloromethane and methyl chloroformate in many sectors.
