Engineers must play leading role in preserving the earth from destruction

As a species, we have been incredibly successful in dominating our environment. However, this success has not been without cost. Our numbers have increased to such an extent that we are beginning to affect the balance. We require even greater amounts of food and energy, and produce more and more waste. The resources of the world are finite and we are using them at a greater rate than at any other time in the history of the world. Our activities are causing the pollution of land and water and the balance of the atmosphere has been so changed that we are in danger of destroying that fragile mantle that protects us - the ozone layer. In order to survive and to leave a world fit for our children's children, we need to treat it with respect.
