Billy Alton does not see himself as a salesman, even though his job is to sell corrugated boxes and displays for Carolina Container, Hickory, N.C. He's been selling successfully since 1988, so he's picked up a few tricks worth sharing, reports the Hickory Daily Record. During his career, Alton has had to reinvent his job a few times to differentiate himself from his competition. "When I started out, 95 percent of what I sold was standard corrugated," Alton says. "But today, 95 percent of what I sell is custom-designed shippers and merchandising displays that help sell my customer's product directly to consumers."
