West Coast box plant owners can afford to put something more than donut holes next to the company coffee pot if the general economic improvement continues. Beyond donuts, food and produce can put box makers back into the black. Agriculture is doing well up and down the Left Coast. Growers anticipate bumper crops for early-season vegetables and tree fruits in California's central valley. "We are up 25 percent, year-to-date, over last year," says the general manager of an 800 million-sq-ft per year independent. He attributes much of that growth to the company's agricultural business. "We all are going to continue to eat," he states.
