OCC Prices Keep Softening

The big news in the recovered paper world this month conies from China, as it often does nowadays. Due to high container-board inventories, Chinese mills have slowed production and are using less OCC. OCC prices have softened accordingly. Some are calling what happened late last month a crash. But whatever you want to call it, it is fair to say that there is no market for recovered paper in China right now. Containerboard and cartonboard sales remain flat in China and excess inventory of finished products at the mill levels remains very high. Aggressive downtime or slowdowns dominate.
