Independent folding carton producers have been paying more money for key boxboard grades for about 60 days now. In a phone survey conducted over the past four weeks, these converters report that board mill backlogs for SBS and CRB are at four to five weeks right now. Put another way, boxboard producers are in control right now. Factors behind the successful price increases include relatively high old corrugated containers (OCC) prices, strong demand, and mill discipline. New prices are reflected in the chart on this page.
