RT's Profits More than Double

Rock-Tenn Co. (RT), Norcross, Ga., posted second-quarter profits that were more than double what they were a year ago, due primarily to lower costs for materials. For the three months ending March 31, net income was $37.4 million. That was compared with $17.1 million in the same period a year ago, excluding onetime charges for its acquisition of Southern Container last year.
