Rock-Tenn Boosts Profits

Profits at Rock-Tenn Co., Norcross, Ga., rose 44 percent in the fourth-quarter. For the three months ended Sept. 30, net income climbed to $28.4 million, from $19.7 million during the same period a year ago. The company says higher pricing and improved productivity more than offset steeper commodity input costs. Excluding one-time items, Rock-Tenn earned $34.5 million. Sales were up 30 percent in the quarter to $785.7 million, compared with $604.8 million a year ago.
