MWV Workers Ratify New Contract

The United Steelworkers ratified a new labor agreement at MeadWestvaco's (MWV) Mahrt, Ala. unbleached boxboard mill after 14 months of negotiation. The new contract covers some 540 workers. The agreement, which will expires Oct. 31,2013, provides an immediate $3,000 lump sum bonus to production and maintenance employees, plus an immediate general wage increase of 2 percent. The new agreement contains wage increases totaling 10.5 percent over the contract's term.
