On The Farm: Harvest Not Quite Complete 2011 A Good Start for the 2012 Crop 2012 A Record Setting Crop

At the writing of this article on January 14, 2013, only one of Louisiana's sugar mills is still receiving cane. Of the eleven Louisiana sugar mills, processing cane for the 2012 crop four completed their task before New Year's Day; six were finishedwith the crop within the first seven days of 2013. It now appears that one mill will receive cane through at least mid-January. The M.A. Patout Group's Enterprise Mill was expected to complete harvest by the 14th. The combination of a larger crop than originally anticipated and deteriorating field conditions that accompanied the excessive rain during the first two weeks of January has pushed their completion date forward by a couple of days and they are now expecting to complete harvest on the 16th.
