Washington Update: Farm Bill Fate Tied To Lame Duck USDA WASDE September Report on US Sugar Supply and Use

After farmers spent August educating their Members of Congress, farm .groups rallied in Washington in mid-September to reinforce the message that a strong, 5-year farm bill reauthorization is of paramount importance to farmers, bankers and the communities that rely on a vibrant farm economy. Interestingly, while many members of Congress (MOC) participated in the farm rally and continue to urge the leadership to move the bill forward, House conservatives initiated efforts to get the House leadership to cancel the lame duck session and resist efforts to roll the farm bill into larger deals in this session or in the lame duck.
