The annual meeting of the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) is a time to take stock of issues affecting the life sciences industry both in the US and elsewhere. This year the conference organisers brought two speakers to their meeting in Baltimore, Maryland on 17-19 October 2005 who had little or no previous experience with the regulatory affairs profession. This had the effect of broadening out the discussions to include issues such as patient safety and the impact of the global economy on politics, society and employment, in addition to the traditional topics of drug and medical device registration and compliance.
