Raction time as measured by balancing a stick

It is not difficult to balance a meter stick by supporting one end in the open palm. however, it is virtually impossible to repeat this performance with a much shorter object, such as a pencil. As it turns out, the length of a rod that may be balanced in this fashion is a measure of the reaction time of the individual.
