Experimental Evidence for the Phenomenon of Thermo-Baro-Elastic Diffusive Equilibrium between the Phases Transformed upon Hydride Transformations
Upon the investigation of hydride transformations in the palladium-hydrogen system by optical videomicroscopy in situ, the thermobaroelastic diffusional equilibrium of the transformed alpha and beta phases was experimentally observed. The kinetics of the phenomenon, the structural mechanism of breaking equilibrium under the effect of a constantly acting thermodynamic driving force of transformation, and the factors that hamper hydride growth at various stages of this process are analyzed.
