Specific features of the effect of nanocrystalline ZrO_2 additions prepared by different methods on the combustion process, structure, and physicomechanical properties of a hard alloy STIM-3B were studied. The samples were synthesized by the technology of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. It was shown that an addition of a nanocrystalline ZrO_2 powder reduces the rate and temperature of combustion. The effect of a substantial structure modification of the synthesis products was established to result from the introduction of nanocrystalline ZrO_2 into the initial powder mixture. It was found that the addition of 7 vol percent ZrO_2 obtained by the sol-gel method beneficially affects all the basic physicomechanical properties of the alloy (strength, hardness, and crack resistance).
