Veterinary pharmacology: Where to in the 21st century?

At the invitation of the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) a joint symposium was held at the April 2002 meeting of the Society at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, in collaboration with the Association for Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology andTherapeutics (AVCPT). This was a first for both societies and hopefully furtherjoint ventures will be undertaken in the years ahead. AVCPT is, by BPS standards, a relative youngster. Formed in 1978 as the brainchild of Andrew Yoxall, assisted by a smallgroup of enthusiasts, AVCPT has now come of age. The symposium has prompted one of those enthusiasts to reflect on recent advances in and future prospects for the discipline of veterinary pharmacology.
