摘要

Rock art research, like all other archaeological sub-disciplines, is influenced by a researcher's personal interests(Lewis-Williams 1993: 46-47; Whitley 2005: 17). This bias, orwhat Ian Hodder describes as 'pre-understandings' (1999:49-52), informs the questions we ask, the methods we use tocollect and analyse data, and how we interpret or constructthe results. With regard to rock art recording and image classifi-cation and identification, there are times that we 'see' what weexpect to see. Images of front and back aprons (e.g. Blundell &Eastwood 2001), bags, and karosses are a case in point.
