摘要

MICROCHIPS are being introduced as a legal obligation for individual management of animals in many foreign countries, and this is expected to solve problems such as the identification of the owners of animals involved in accidents and of animals which have been subjected to cruelty. As the mean lifespan of dogs as companion animals increases, long-term evaluation of the safety and biological stability of implants is necessary. The histological evaluation of microchip implants in several laboratory animals has been reported (Rao and Edmondson 1990, Ball and others 1991). This short communication evaluates the effects of microchip implantation and readability of the data in dogs up to six years after implantation.
