Feline chlamydiosis: a seroepidemiological investigation of human beings with and without contact with cats.

A total of 303 human sera samples from 164 individuals in Italy who had contact with cats (85 veterinarians and 79 owners) and 139 subjects who had no contact were tested for the presence of anti-Chlamydophila felis antibodies using an indirect microimmunofluorescence test (MIF) [date not given]. It was shown that 23 (7.6%) of the 303 samples were positive for, with titres ranging from 32-128. Of these, 13 were from subjects who had contact with cats (7 veterinarians and 6 owners) and 10 were from who had no contact. The sera were also positive for C. pneumoniae (antibody titres 32-512) and 2 samples from veterinarians were positive for C. psittaci.
