Effects of periparturient events on subsequent culling and fertility in eight UK dairy herds

The increased use of data to analyse health, production and subsequent financial performance on dairy farms has highlighted the importance of minimising commonly occurring diseases to improve profitability. The aims of the present study were to assessthe effect of periparturient events on subsequent culling and fertility using parameters currently in use in the UK dairy industry. Data from individual farms were used to develop a template benchmarking system to demonstrate to farmers the impact of these events in their own herd.
