PCPC Rejects JAMA Phthaiates Study

In a Nov. 19 statement, Personal Care Products Council Chief Toxicologist Linda Loretz maintains the safety of phthaiates used in personal-care products following a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics that suggested a correlation between exposure to the ingredient through personal-care products and preterm birth. The study's results "do not show causation, [and] it is important to look at the entire scientific body of evidence when evaluating an ingredient's safety profile, not data from just one study."
