Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) pushes to regain the Energy and Commerce Committee chair against the long odds of fellow Republicans appointing him to the post, which wields significant influence over FDA. Barton is "definitely trying" to be the next Energy and Commerce chairman, a spokeswoman in the congressman's office said. Whether he will receive a waiver from GOP House term limit rules and be allowed to return to the committee's top post likely will not be decided until after the Thanksgiving break.
