Maleic anhydride is mainly used to produce unsaturated polyester and alkyd resin. It an also be used in the pesticide, coating, ink, lube oil additive, paper-making chemical, textile finishing agent, surfactant and organic chemical synthesis sectors. Commerical production methods can mainly be divided by raw material route into the benzene process, the N-butane process, the C4 olefin process and the phthalic anhydride byproduct process. The N-butane process has developed rapidly in recent years. It currently holds the leading position, accounting for around 80% of the total produciton capacity.
