Does lowering cholesterol cause cancer?

In JAMA,3 January,1996,Newman and Hulley raised an ominous issue - cholesterol-lowering may cause cancer.Their thesis was based on a review of epidemiological studies of cancer and cholesterol levels,clinical trials of cholesterol-lowering,and close scrutiny of the Physicians'Desk Reference.They presented multiple lines of evidence that pointed to the possibility that lowering cholesterol levels may cause cancer.However their data was later reassessed and thought to be unrelated.
